The Genius (original title: A Genius, Two Partners and a Dupe / Un genio, due compari, un pollo) is a 1975 Spaghetti Western Comedy directed by Damiano Damiani and Sergio Leone. It stars Terence Hill as Joe Thanks, Miou-Miou, Robert Charlebois, Patrick McGoohan and Klaus Kinski.

This is one of the last real Spaghetti Westerns, shot in Monument Valley. It’s not a serious western like Anthony Steffen movies. It’s a comedy-heist movie.

The story starts simple. Joe Thanks (Terence Hill) is a genius con-man. He can appear anywhere, steal anything, and shoot faster than anyone, but he never kills. He finds out that the cruel Major Cabot has stolen $300,000 — money that should go to the Indians. Joe makes a plan to steal it back.

He teams up with two partners — Steam Engine Bill, who loves machines, and his girlfriend Lucy. Together they trick the army, the bandits, and even Doc Foster (Klaus Kinski). The plan is very clever, full of tricks and funny moments.

What makes this movie different is Terence Hill’s character. He is like Nobody from My Name is Nobody — always smiling, always playing. Even when guns are pointed at him, he is calm and funny. That’s why fans love him.

I watched both the English dub and the Italian dub (Un genio, due compari, un pollo). The Italian dub is better. The jokes are faster and Terence Hill sounds more charming. In English, some funny lines are flat. In Italian, you feel the real Trinity-style humor.

The music is also great — a mix of funny and adventurous, perfect for a heist western.

My rating is 7.5/10. If you like Trinity, My Name is Nobody, or any Terence Hill comedy western, you will love The Genius. It’s light, funny, and perfect for family night. Not dark like Django, but very entertaining.
